Default News and events around the teams this week (30/08/08)

4x4RNE helped support the Great north bike ride, (http://www.chrislucastrust.com/Newsflash.htm)

"Providing marshalling, logistical support and transport for riders and cycles. Sunday 24th auguast 2008........

This was our first year @ this event and early indications suggest it will not be our last. We sort of hit the ground running as the organisers were a little unsure of what they required from us and we realy had little idea of what we would be required to do. However, our previous experience of events and prior working relationship with RAYNET meant that all our members were not only able to deliver whatever was asked but also sort out any problems as they arose.

I believe that there where about 1750 entrants but may have been as many as 2000!

An absolutely phenominal event which 4x4RNE are proud to have been able to assist."

Night of 23rd/24th August - Humber-Yorks 4x4 Response attended the Dove House Hospice Sponsored walk helping to provide radio cover in concert with East Yorkshire Raynet and attending to various Marshalling duties. A mother and daughter who retired from the walk were evacuated by one vehicle whilst others had to respond hastily to a very last minute route change in order to continue to provide the best possible warning to other motorists of the walk. The whole event ran smoothly despite the reroute and was finished ahead of time with no casualties.

Next week sees a busy long weekend for the group as 9 members head to the Lake District to cross Gatescarth Pass, regarded by some as the most challenging green lane in the UK, 5th september. Weather permitting this will be followed by a barbeque, with further green laning planned in the Lake District for the following day.

Some members are staying on for a further days laning whilst Chairman, Ian Clark and Secretary, Simon Bentley will be making the return drive early in order to to attend the Emergency Services Open Day in Grimsby, 7th September. This will be the first time the group has attended such an event and the 3 car stand will be completed by Darren Stewart.

Wessex 4x4 Response has received an E-mail of thanks from Devon & Cornwall Police recognising the assistance given in the recent search for a missing person in the Launceston area.
