Rover Rescue will be taking part in Exercise PENelope on Wednesday 18th November
This is an exercise to test local operational procedures regarding the issue of a Precautionary Evacuation Notice (PEN) in the Hunstanton, Heacham and Snettisham area. Rover Rescue will be working with RAYNET, the Emergency Wardens and St John Ambulance to help the Emergency Management Unit test the procedures for the issue of the PEN.
PEN notices are peculiar to the above area and are used as it is an area full of holiday caravans, chalets etc and the residents at any time are unlikely to be aware of local conditions. The notice is delivered by the Emergency Wardens, with our support, in daylight hours at least 12 hours before an expected surge tide. The Environment Agency has developed their computerised forecasting system to such a degree that they expect to be able to predict flooding under surge tide conditions to a very high degree of accuracy.
We have been requested to provide 3 teams and it will give us the opportunity to see the new EMU (Emergency Management Unit) control room in Hunstanton as well as the new Rest Centre which will be used for evacuations.
Two additional suppliers have kindly offered discount to 4x4 Response members -- contact details etc are available in the members pages.
